2015 Zinfandel
An initial glance at the Demeter 2015 Zinfandel might lead one to believe it to be a Pinot or Tempranillo from its clear, light reddish hue. But there is no mistake this is a serious Zinfandel. Winemaker James Demeter stated that even after leaving it on the skins for two weeks, the grapes did not produce a more familiar deep ruby color. But what’s missing to the eye is easily made up for in the nose and mouth! Opening with dark plums and blackberries, next to cedar, spice and vanilla-laced pipe tobacco. As the glass warms, aromas of candied apple, smoke and leather push through. Pure richness. This is a large-bodied wine to be sure, with full-mouth tannins and well-balanced acidity. Perfect for cutting through a fatty steak like a Kansas City strip or ribeye. Or serve it with a hearty pasta dish with red sauce or ragu.
